Who's on the Throne?

Deuteronomy 6:4 (ESV)

The Shema starts with a claim before a command: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Before God tells us how to love Him, He tells us who He is. Calvin called the human heart an idol factory — we slide good gifts (marriage, kids, career) into the place only God is meant to occupy. Before passing faith on to your kids, ask the throne question for yourself.

"Before God tells us to love Him, He tells us who He is."

Tue · May 19 · Day 2

Love God with Everything

Mark 12:29–30 (ESV)

When Jesus quoted the Shema as the greatest commandment, He expanded "might" to "mind and strength" — making sure no part of a person gets left out. Heart. Soul. Mind. Strength. The whole you. Not a Sunday slice. The reordering that makes everything else in life finally work.

"Heart. Soul. Mind. Strength. The whole you."

When You Sit, When You Walk

Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (ESV)

The Shema commands a daily rhythm where faith is woven into ordinary life — not a Pinterest-worthy family devotion event. Sit. Walk. Lie down. Rise. Five seconds in five different moments will shape your kids more than a forty-five-minute scheduled devotion. Faith at home is a rhythm you live, not an event you perform.

"Faith isn't an event you perform. It's a rhythm you live."

A Gift to Your Children

Deuteronomy 6:8–9 (ESV)

Bind God's words on your hands. Write them on the doorposts. The Shema's last move is the most visible — faith was meant to be something the family could see. Kids who grow up in a home where faith is visible are more resilient and more anchored. Not a burden you load on your kids. A gift you give them by living it in front of them.

"The Shema is a gift you give your kids by living it in front of them."

Fri · May 22 · Day 5

Not Try Harder. Trust Deeper.

Mark 12:29–30 (ESV)

The Shema is not a moral self-improvement plan. The Shema is what Jesus came to fulfill. Christ lived the wholehearted love of God we never could, died the death we owed, and sends His Spirit to write God's law on hearts from the inside out. The rhythm starts wherever you are, with whatever you have, in whatever moment is in front of you today.

"Not because you tried harder. Because you trusted a better Savior."
